WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR LASER/IPL REGULARLY SERVICED:
With the price of many IPL or Laser machines ranging from the cost of a small family car right up to the price of luxury saloons or even some supercars - careful maintenance of these valuable assets in your business is a must!
Servicing and maintaining these devices is a specialist business, with improper maintenance potentially having serious implications for the safety of yourself and your clients, aswell as the smooth running of your equipment.
With over 25 years experience in the Laser/IPL market, we know how to ensure that your machine is properly serviced and complies with Care Quality Commission (formerly Healthcare Commission) maintenance requirements with our Full "Preventative Maintenance and Servicing Schedule" which includes:
These checks are to make sure that all the laser/IPL modules are earthed to the main socket (green/yellow wire). If they are not earthed properly you or your client could get an electric shock.
We also check the circuit breaker( a big Switch) on the back of the machine that kills all the power to the device if it detects any power or earth problems, and that the Stop switch, (big red button on the front of all machines), kills all power when you push it - if you feel there is a problem with the machine.
Power Measurements
These checks are vitally important as they measure what comes out of the laser into a power meter to check that the reading measured is within plus or minus 20% of what is displayed on the screen; if not the laser should not be used and should be calibrated. Some lasers have an in built calibration port, which self adjusts the power, however this port still needs calibrating.
- Machine Calibration
- Head Calibration
Optical Coatings(where appropriate)
These checks are specifically for the lasers that we service; all lasers will have front and back mirrors to reflect the laser beam and glass optics to focus the laser beam into the fibre. If the mirrors or optics get dirty - usually due to dust, the laser power will drop during use causing two problems - an error message saying "low power calibration" or "low power" and the mirrors and optics may become damaged and require replacement.
Twice yearly cleaning and checking will help to maintain the mirrors and optics reducing the likelihood of expensive call out charges for repairs.
- Front Optic Cleaned and Checked
- Rear Optic Cleaned and Checked
- Port Optic Cleaned and Checked
- Port Window Cleaned and Checked
Laser Alignment
When you have cleaned the mirrors alignment is the next step, you have to adjust the mirrors so they are parallel to each to ensure that the power that comes out of the laser head is at it's maximum. The mirrors can move slightly due to moving of the laser/sharp bang or the mirror holders slackening. The alignment procedure is highly specialised and if not done correctly can cause permanent damage to the laser head costing thousands of pounds!. The aiming beam laser, where present, also needs aligning.
Safety
A number of other safety checks are made including checking that the water flow switch works and that water levels are sufficient; if these aren't correct the water pump could fail resulting in overheating of the machine which eventually leads to damage of internal components.
Cooling System
Cooling fans need to run at the correct speed for optimum performance.
Handpiece/Scanner (where appropriate)
Handpiece/Pen like, glass optic in a metal tube to focus the laser beam at the skin. Different sizes in mm, the 5mm, 10mm, 15mm - all have a glass lens that need cleaning, some have a normal piece of glass in front of the lens, that also needs cleaning or replacing.
Miscellaneous
Glasses need to checked for signs of damage and most important - that they are effective in blocking the wavelength for the type of laser/ipl being used. The wrong wavelength could cause permanent damage to the eyes.
We also check that all machine covers fit properly and that they are cleaned.
